Below is the article in its entirety....thanks Ben, You Rock!
Ballew's Music Review
(From 4/2006)
Imagine you are sitting in your bedroom strumming away on your guitar. The music is flowing out of you. You break a string. The music stops and you are left with an injured guitar. What do you do my fellow musician? Get yourself up to Ballew's Music. Never heard of it? Well let me fill you in. Ballew's Music is a locally owned and operated music shop. It has been open since 1964, making it Carrollton's oldest music shop. It is located at 302D North Park Street. An easier way to get there is to take highway 27 going towards Bremen. You will see it on your left. The sign is huge and difficult to miss. Now that you are there you might be wondering, 'what kinds of strings do I need?' Well you're in luck; the employees at Ballew's are friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to aid you. Since many of them play instruments themselves, they will often make suggestions on what types to purchase. If you do not know how to change your strings, you can take your guitar with you and they will show you how. If you are just lazy, like me, you can leave it to have your strings changed and pick it up later at your convenience. If you do decide to stick around while your guitar is being tended to, then you will notice their vast inventory. As Georgia's largest Marshall Dealer, Ballew's specialties are guitars and amps, vintage or new. Most major brands such as Epiphone, Fender, Ampeg, Marshall, and Martin are represented. Ballew's can also take care of all of your drum and percussion needs, as well as band and orchestra needs. In addition to guitar repair, they offer amplifier and band instrument repair. If you are looking to purchase P.A. equipment Ballew's can help you too. They will even show you how to properly operate it. Ballew's Music tries to be an active promoter of music education in the Carrollton community. In the past they have conducted seminars at Carrollton Junior High School. Topics have included guitar, music history, and recording techniques. Owner, Monty Neese, has expressed interest in doing such a seminar right here on our campus and possibly turning it into a full program. Until that happens you can still take guitar lessons from their own in house teacher Kevin Lyle or partake of their full stock of instruction booklets for both traditional band instruments and non-band instruments (i.e. guitar, bass) For those of you are interested in buying but might be short on funds, Ballew's offers layaway and financing for musicians on a budget. They also accept trades. If you are short on cash but not interested in buying, you can sell your instrument on consignment. Since many of the employees at Ballew's are also members of the Carrollton music scene, the door is often plastered with advertisements for up and coming shows in Carrollton and the West Georgia areas. If you are thinking about visiting Ballew's, then you should. Its hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm, Friday 10am-5:30pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm. You can contact them at (770) 832-1917 or visit them on the web at www.BallewsMusic.com. This is an excellent way to meet the many players in the Carrollton scene and purchase some hot new gear. So, if you will excuse me, my guitar is ready. Now get out there and be "scene"!
